To properly match Race Director results with MileSplit athletes and teams, your participant data should originate from MileSplit Registration.

MileSplit results require the MileSplit Athlete ID and MileSplit Team ID associated with each performance. Starting with a MileSplit registration export ensures those IDs are available when you build your Race Director meet.

Part 1: Download entries from MileSplit

After registration closes, download the meet entries from MileSplit.

On the next page, select either:

  • Download Entries, or
  • The Entries tab

Both options take you to the same entries page.

Under Download all Entries on the right side of the page, find Download to CSV at the bottom of the available file formats.

Select Download to CSV.

This automatically downloads the entries in the CSV format expected by Race Director.

Part 2: Prepare Race Director

Before importing athletes, make sure Race Director is ready for the MileSplit data.

Set up a team classification

In Race Director, go to:

Tailor > Teams

Make sure at least one team classification exists.

The MileSplit export does not specify which Race Director team classification each team belongs to.

If you use multiple classifications, such as Division 1 and Division 2, imported teams will initially be assigned to the first team classification.

After importing all athletes, review the teams and manually move any teams assigned to the wrong classification.

Before each new athlete import, it is recommended that you:

  • Delete the existing Race Director participants.
  • Clear the existing teams under Tailor > Teams.

Part 3: Create a field for the MileSplit Registration ID

Race Director needs an optional data field for the MileSplit registration ID.

  1. Go to Tailor > Options.
  2. Find the optional data fields.
  3. Assign one optional data field to the MileSplit registration ID.

You can use any of the 10 available optional data fields.

Part 4: Import the MileSplit CSV

  1. In Race Director, go to Update > Participants.
  2. Select Imp from the top task bar.
  3. Choose Spreadsheet.
  4. Select MileSplit from the available import options.
  5. Choose the CSV file you downloaded from MileSplit.

Review the field mappings

In Step 2 of the Race Director import, the MileSplit fields are mapped automatically.

You do not need to change the existing mappings.

Add bib numbers if needed

Bib numbers are not assigned through MileSplit, so the MileSplit CSV does not include a bib-number column.

If you want to add bib numbers before importing:

  1. Open the MileSplit CSV.
  2. Add a new bib-number column at the end of the existing columns.
  3. Enter the appropriate bib numbers.
  4. Save the file without changing the existing MileSplit columns.

During the Race Director import, manually map your added column to Bib Number.

The other MileSplit fields will remain automatically mapped.

Complete the team setup

During the final import step, use the appropriate team setup option for the MileSplit participant data.

When you select Build, Race Director will ask you to assign the appropriate Race Director division based on the values found in the first column of the CSV file.

Complete the division assignments for your meet.

Review your imported participants and teams

After the import is complete, confirm that:

  • Expected athletes are present.
  • MileSplit registration IDs are available.
  • Teams were created correctly.
  • Teams are assigned to the correct classifications.
  • Any added bib numbers are correct.

If you use multiple team classifications, manually correct any teams that were initially assigned to the first classification.

Part 5: Create the MileSplit results file after the meet

After the meet is complete:

  1. Open the Cross Country Finish List report in Race Director.
  2. Select all divisions that scored in the meet.
  3. Run the report.
  4. Review the results for accuracy.
  5. Continue when prompted to save the results file.

The saved file contains the information MileSplit needs to process your meet results.

Before submitting your results

Review the final results and confirm:

  • Athlete names are correct.
  • Teams are correct.
  • Places and finish times are correct.
  • Team classifications are correct.
  • MileSplit Athlete IDs and Team IDs have been preserved.
